BBC Involved in Sexual Harassment Scandal

LONDON, UK – A sexual abuse scandal is taking over the BBC as the broadcaster claims it is investigating allegations of unwanted sexual harassment against nine staff members and contributors, in addition to the late sexual predator (and TV host) Jimmy Savile.
The BBC has been dealing with sexual harassment allegations involving Savile, who died last year. The claims accuse Savile of sexually abusing several underage teens over several decades, sometimes on BBC premises. Some of the alleged victims have also accused other entertainers and BBC staff of participating in the sexual harassment, which allegedly took place between the 1960s and ’80s.
According to director-general George Entwistle, the BBC is looking into the allegations, but that it is too early to tell whether sexual abuse did in fact occur on BBC property. He added that the BBC would assist law enforcement officers in the investigation.
Entwistle also acknowledged there was “a problem of culture within the BBC … a broader cultural problem” that allowed Savile’s lewd behavior to go unchecked.
“There is no question that what Jimmy Savile did and the way the BBC behaved … will raise questions of trust for us and reputation for us,” said Entwistle.

SANTA CRUZ – A lawsuit has been filed against a Capitola psychologist on the grounds of criminal sexual abuse against a child.
Dr. John William Visher was arrested last month following an investigation that he committed lewd sexual acts against an 8-year-old girl. The girl was a patient of his and police believe the sexual harassment took place at Visher’s office.
The young victim’s family filed a personal injury suit against Visher last week, charging him with sexual harassment, professional negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The suit seeks unspecified damages.
Visher pleaded not guilty on Oct. 9 to five felony charges, including lewd acts on a child and child pornography. He is expected back in court Nov. 14.
In the meantime, Visher’s license to practice psychology was suspended by the California Board of Psychology on Sept. 24 following the arrest and the criminal charges.

NOW Pushes For Detailed Investigation of NY Assembly Sexual Harassment

New York, NY-The New York chapter of the National Organization for Women is pressuring the Joint Commission on Public Ethics to deliver specifics on the pervasive sexual harassment in Assemblyman Vito Lopez’s office.
JCOPE is investigating Lopez’s misconduct along with allegations that Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver paid off one woman in order to cover up the scandal.
“JCOPE has an opportunity to prove itself by conducting a real investigation, which reveals how pervasive the problem is, whether other instances of sexual harassment were properly addressed as well as bringing forth the full facts of who knew what and when they knew it. A hurried report which fails to address the full scope of the Assembly and Mr. Lopez’s wrong doing is unacceptable,” said Susan Lehrer of Common Cause/ NY.
President of NOW/ NY Sonia Ossorio said, “We have a culture that dismisses sexual harassment as naught behavior.”
Ossorio was also outraged that Lopez was prohibited from hiring women under the age of twenty after he was disciplined for sexual harassment, because the perpetrator should be punished instead of current or future victims.
Too often allegations of sexual harassment are ignored or dismissed by people in the position to stop it. But why do they do that? In the case of the NY Assembly, Silver was trying to avoid a public scandal. In other instances, the employer may not believe the allegations or they may think the complainant is blowing things out of proportion. However, the victims of workplace abuse, when ignored, often turn to a sexual harassment attorney to file a lawsuit and seek compensation.
Are Your Tax Dollars Being Allocated Toward Settling Other People’s Sexual Harassment Cases?

If you are in New York, then the answer is yes. An inmate has won a $300,000 sexual harassment lawsuit after an improper “pat and frisk” incident by a guard, but the money came from New York taxpayers. State taxpayers coughed up $5.3 million to settle sexual harassment cases against NY workers over four years. And you thought you paid a lot in taxes?
The former inmate, Stephen Lewis, was among the first sexual harassment cases for which information was released under the state Freedom of Information Law on Thursday and Friday. The report shows over 20 cases of sexual harassment over the past four years that were all settled with taxpayers’ money.
Lewis was a prisoner at Arthur Kill on Staten Island who was found to be a victim of a “sexually abusive pat and frisk” by a male guard in November 2007. Another prisoner, Laurie Kellogg, also obtained a $75,000 settlement for a sexual harassment case she filed in 2007.
In another case, nearly $2 million was paid to a cook at the Lakeview Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility who accused her boss of sexual harassment in 2000 and 2005 and retaliation.
These records were requested following the disclosure of $103,000 in public taxpayer money paid to settle a sexual harassment case against Assemblyman Vito Lopez.
If you have been struggling with your own sexual harassment or assault claim, turn to a sexual harassment lawyer immediately to file a case and make sure you obtain compensation for your pain and suffering as well. Your sexual harassment attorney will fight for your rights and ensure the perpetrator is held responsible for their crimes.
Female Detectives Sue King County Over Sexual Harassment Incidents

Three female King County Sheriff’s detectives have filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against King County, alleging they were subjected to unwanted sexual acts and behavior by male supervisors for years.
The alleged victims, Marylisa Priebe-Olson, Janette Luitgaarden and Belinda Ferguson, are seeking up to $9 million in damages, claiming they were subjected to sexual harassment by male supervisors – ironically – in the unit that investigates sex crimes.
The detectives filed the claims on Aug. 21, claiming they endured years of verbal sexual abuse, including degrading comments and threats of retaliation if they reported the incidents. They accuse three current and former supervisors in the Sexual Assault Unit, including Tony Provenzo, Paul Mahlum and Dave Jutilla of the crimes.
Sexual harassment is defined as any unwanted sexual conduct. It can be anything from a lewd joke to a serious physical attack like rape. Regardless of the individual circumstances behind the incidents, any act of sexual harassment can make the victim feel embarrassed and afraid, often preventing them from coming forward for fear of retaliation or leading them to be traumatized for years to come.
Anyone who suffered sexual harassment has the right to come forward to make sure the perpetrator is held liable for their crimes. If you or someone you know has been hurt by a sexual offender, turn to a top sexual harassment lawyer immediately to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice and so you can obtain compensation for your pain and suffering.
Sexual harassment lawyers protect the rights of those who have been subjected to unwanted sexual behavior. If nothing is done about the harassment, it can escalate or offenders may turn to a new victim. Don’t let this happen and speak to a sexual harassment attorney today to file a case.
The Many Faces of Sexual Harassment
September 20th, 2012
Posted in Sexual Harassment News
Many people might think that sexual harassment is just something that occurs between a male perpetrator and female victim, but think again. Unwanted sexual acts can take place between people of any age, race, gender, or sexuality. Incidents don’t even have to be extreme like rape either. Sexual harassment includes any type of unwanted or unwelcome actions or behaviors that are sexual in nature and can involve something as mild as a lewd sexual joke to something like quid pro quo (request for sexual favors) in exchange for good grades in school or a promotion at work.
An increasing number of reports are showing sexual harassment affecting male victims as well as children. These days, you can never dismiss someone as not being a potential offender and must work to protect yourself from harm. It is important for everyone to know that regardless of what a particular case of sexual harassment entails, victims are entitled to seek help for their pain and suffering. If you or someone you know has suffered harassment, turn to a leading sexual harassment lawyer right away to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice.
Unfortunately, many sexual harassment victims do not come forward because they are too afraid or embarrassed, or they fear the perpetrator will retaliate. However, not doing anything almost entirely ensures that the harassment will continue, and possibly get worse. Sexual harassment attorneys know that it is extremely difficult for victims to come forward, so they offer their support around the clock and work to ensure the harassment stops as well as so their clients can obtain compensation for their trauma and suffering.
Anyone who has witnessed or been the victim of sexual harassment should contact a sexual harassment attorney immediately to protect their rights.
Michigan Police Chief Accuses City Officials of Sexual Harassment and Discrimination

Holly, MI- The former police chief for Holly, Elena Danishevskaya, claims she left her job because of sexual harassment and discrimination she suffered at the hands of two village officials.
Danishevskaya alleges that village councilman Thomas Clark subjected her to a hostile work environment by sending her crude videos of a semi-nude woman shooting a gun and other obscene acts. She also accuses Clark of inappropriate touching. In total her complaint contained 21 allegations against Clark.
Clark, naturally, denies all or the allegations noting he is a happily married man.
The former chief filed her complaint in March and after a lengthy investigation, Clark was suspended.
Danishevskaya also accused the village manager, Jerry Walker, of discrimination, alleging he did not treat her fairly and made it clear that he wanted her job.
She eventually resigned but her attorney said, “She goes from the one asking her complaints be investigated to being thrown of the job. This is a clear case of retaliation.”
Retaliation and sexual harassment tend to go hand in hand as employers often take steps to punish the complainant instead of the perpetrator. Harassment is often about power and a large majority of harassers use their position to abuse subordinate employees.
A sexual harassment attorney can give the harassed employee the strength to stand up and stop their abuse. A strong suit can also make certain the harassment and discrimination victim receives the compensation they deserve.

What Should You Do When Sexual Harassment Occurs At The Workplace?
If you have experienced any unwanted sexual conduct or verbal commentary at work, the first thing you need to do is talk to the perpetrator and let them know how you feel. Sometimes by speaking with the person, you might be able to get them to stop. However, if this doesn’t work, bring up the matter with a supervisor or human resources department. If that option were to fail, you can always seek legal help with a sexual harassment lawyer who will protect your rights and file a case on your behalf.
It is important to distinguish whether sexual harassment has occurred before taking any action. Sexual harassment can include several actions and can be anything from a mild, general lewd joke to a serious physical attack like rape. Regardless of the individual circumstances behind your sexual harassment incidents, it is important to know that you are not alone and you have a right to stop any incident that creates a hostile work environment. Turn to a leading sexual harassment attorney immediately to file a claim and make sure the assailant is brought to justice.
Sexual harassment lawyers do whatever it takes to ensure the harassers are held accountable for their crimes and will not rest until you obtain compensation for your pain and suffering, which could include thousands – if not millions – in money damages. You have a right to be safe from harm at work, and your lawyer will make sure of it.
Don’t be afraid to come forward with sexual harassment allegations because the longer you wait, the worse the harassment can get. Contact the offices of a leading team of sexual harassment attorneys today to file a claim and ensure that the unwanted sexual conduct ceases once and for all.
