Sexual harassment is a crime, regardless of the situation, but one Wayne County man has crossed the line beyond comprehension.

Richard J. Dallas, 25, of Lyons, was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison Tuesday morning, the maximum prison sentence, after sexually abusing a baby girl.

Dallas was found guilty last month of sexual assault against a child, first-degree assault, both felonies, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor crime.

The conviction stemmed from a sexual harassment incident that took place in Dallas’ home on Nov. 30. Authorities say the girl, only nine months old, sustained severe internal injuries as a result of the sexual assault.

Appallingly, Dallas was charged in December, weeks after emergency crews came to his house to assist the little girl, who was having trouble breathing.

Luckily, the girl, who is now about 16 months old, is recovering.

This abhorrent act of sexual abuse was dealt with and justice was served. Unfortunately, no matter how strong of a conviction is issued against the predator, nothing can undo the damage that was done to the little girl.

While time can’t be turned back, victims of sexual abuse can seek legal help to make sure they obtain compensation for their pain and suffering, as well as to ensure the perpetrator is held accountable for their actions.
