A passenger is suing P&O Cruises for sexual harassment following inappropriate comments made a crew member aboard the Pacific Jewel.
Kate Strahan, 50, alleges that during a singing competition for passengers, a crew member serving as a judge told her he could see her underwear through her dress while she was singing.
In addition, she alleges the crew member made comments about her breasts, said she could “cougar” him any time, and made inappropriate gestures toward an image of her projected on a screen.
The inappropriate sexual actions allegedly took place in front of an audience of about 1,200. Strahan’s husband said the harassment caused his wife so much stress she had to stop working.
P&O Cruises is trying to have the suit dismissed, contending that since the incident took place outside of Australian waters, sexual harassment laws do not apply. The cruise line offered an apology and said the crew member’s contract has not been renewed.
However, Strahan has not dropped the suit and is seeking over $1 million in damages.
