Sacramento, Calif. – A language professor accused of harassing student and professors has dropped his lawsuit against University of California and resigned. Wilfrido Corral, a Spanish professor, agreed to resign as a professor and the University will drop a lawsuit that sought damages for defending multiple sexual harassment lawsuits against him. There was no exchange of money.
The University spent $900,000 to settle harassment lawsuits filed by some of his accusers. Students can turn to a sexual harassment attorney to help put an end to the hostility and tension this situation can create.
In 2005, the women alleged that Corral has taken them to dinner, made sexual comments along with hugging and kissing them. The students revealed the harassment to other language professors who then told University officials, which started conflict within the department that spanned years.
Corral was fired in 2009 and filed a lawsuit to challenge the University’s decision. He continued to teach while his case was going through the appeals process. He filed a suit against Sacramento State alleging they bungled the investigation, and that he was being discriminated against because he is Latino.
A sexual harassment attorney can confirm that students are just as likely to be harassed as women in the workplace. Dealing with any type of harassment while on the job or attending school hinders a person’s performance by creating an uncomfortable and hostile environment. Confronting the harasser can help in some situations, but often the victims must hire a sexual harassment lawyer to alleviate the problem.
